Founded in 1946 as "Panting Junior High" in honor of the renowned astronomer Chu Wen-hsin, Jinxi Middle School is defined by its extraordinary location—neighboring the ancient water town of Jinxi and surrounded by water on three sides. Our design translates the town's historical DNA—its traditional pavilions, corridors, and courtyards—into a minimalist architectural language that bridges heritage with future-ready education. The heart of the campus is a symbolic "stream," a winding public path that flows through the site, acting as a vibrant artery that connects the two-phased academic clusters while mirroring the town's namesake "streams." While Phase I focuses on core academic and athletic functions, Phase II extends the narrative with a grand entrance and the landmark Library & Planetarium Complex. This red-brick structure serves as the project's focal point, where the silhouette of traditional Jinxi brick kilns merges with the form of a modern telescope—a dual tribute to the region's craftsmanship and Chu Wen-hsin's scientific legacy. By integrating the iconic "three elements" of the ancient town—trestles, corridors, and stone bridges—the new campus becomes a living continuation of local nostalgia, fostering an inspiring environment where nature, history, and modern learning converge.
