Located within Suzhou's historic Pingjiang district, the project sits on a constrained and complex urban site surrounded by commercial developments, traditional alleyways, residential buildings, and cultural landmarks. Rather than pursuing a visually assertive architectural object, the design adopts a restrained, context-driven approach, focusing on continuity with the existing urban fabric. Inspired by the water-centered spatial logic of Suzhou's classical gardens, the proposal introduces an open reflective pool and a series of lightweight, transparent volumes to create a contemporary "garden within the city." Existing trees and key site elements are preserved, while new covered walkways and layered public spaces are organized around the water, forming a community-oriented cultural living room centered on gallery functions. The project seeks to reconnect fragmented surroundings, offering both a quiet retreat from the dense commercial context and a cultural interface that reflects the identity of Gusu. The proposal was awarded Second Prize in the 2nd "Heaven on Earth · Creative Gusu" Design Competition and was exhibited at the 2021 Suzhou International Design Week.
