The Xu Shihao Residence, located in Yushan Town, Kunshan, is a 1920s three-story brick-and-timber Western-style building listed as a protected heritage site in 2009. Originally a private residence and later used as government offices and a kindergarten, the project repositions the complex through adaptive reuse of the historic house, former kindergarten building, and surrounding landscape. The residence is converted into a high-end dining venue with a semi-outdoor kitchen connection, while the main building is reorganized into café and retail at ground level, children's education spaces on the second floor, and creative offices on the third, maintaining its structural integrity. The landscape design extends from public to private sequences, integrating nearby Langhuan Park and introducing layered garden spaces. Historic façades are preserved, with new additions subtly differentiated through contemporary green elements, creating a dialogue between heritage and new use.
